Trevor Paglen's "The Last Pictures"at Metro Pictures Gallery February 7 - March 9, 2013
Written & Photographed by Manon Fantoli
Commissioned by Creative Time, "The Last Pictures" is a project Trevor Paglen has been developing for nearly five years. In September, an archival silicon disc encased in a gold-plated shell will be affixed to the exterior of a communications satellite. The disc, or artifact, which has 100 micro-etched photographs representing modern human history onto it, will become the longest-lasting material remnant of contemporary civilization as it orbits the earth for billions of years. All 100 images have been reproduced in a book co-published by University of California Press and Creative Time Books.
