Thursday evening, The Drawing Center held their 2013 Gala at the TriBeca Rooftop, honoring the work of Irish painter Sean Scully. The event was hosted by Bono, who read from Samuel Beckett's "The End," before speaking warmly of his friendship with the artist. Bono praised the artist's process, a rigid, builder-like approach to painting, and that "limits are important for an artist." With cuisine prepared by television chef Mario Batali, notable attendees included art dealer and Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria, REM's Michael Stipe, and tennis player John McEnroe.
A collection of Scully's drawings from the 1970s, titled "Sean Scully: Change and Horizontals," will be on display at The Drawing Center from September 26-November 10th, 2013.
