On July 19th and 20th a trunk show is popping up at Donna Karan’s Urban Zen store in Sag Harbor. The show features the works of Martyn Thompson and Dove Drury- Hornbuckle, available for purchase.
Martyn Thompson creates romantic and painterly photographs, reminiscent of post-impressionists and the Dutch Golden Age, specifically Cezanne. Leading to the appropriate title of Cezanne’s Shadow. Their canvas escalates the soft warmth of the photographs—he transforms them into home furnishings. His photos are Jacquard woven or digitally printed on pillows, wall hangings, wallpaper, table linens, and upholstery, bringing them to the touchable home environment. It’s a marriage of the digital age and the homeliness of hand crafted goods. Thompson has worked for various global fashion and lifestyle companies, always very in touch with the idea of home and textiles. He went from hand painting fabrics in his kitchen, to a more futuristic take on the craft.

Dove Drury- Hornbuckle’s goods have a much more wild and urban feel. With jewelry, ceramics, drawings, and paintings, his works are crazed and chaotic with a healthy dose of humor. The works are reminiscent of found objects, transformed into something beautiful and positive. He also uses expression via performance art, promoting self-love and introspection.
