Francois Harland's new show Francois Harland: Architecture will show at Demisch Danant on W 22nd street and it runs through March 14th. The entire show is set up with an engineer's eye, and an engineers flare for creativity. The title is a perfect example of the aesthetic of the exhibition; it simply and clearly explains what the show is, and there are no surprises.
Harland's work is as mathematic and clear as the title suggests. Pictures of architecture. They are well composed and framed correctly. Some of the pictures are beautiful, but no more than necessary. Some smack of work hanging in hotel lobby, but the more daring the architecture the more daring the picture. The best pieces were of the communist headquarters is Paris, exiting and hopeful. The pictures of walls and chairs are pictures of walls and chairs. The viewer isn't moved in any direction.
