Bert Stern: The Original Mad Man
Staley Wise Gallery
April 5 - May 18, 2013
Bert Stern's iconic images of Marilyn Monroe's "The Last Sitting" (the last formal photographs ever taken of her in 1962 before she died) are just some of the many beautiful images from the photographer's archive on display at Staley Wise. In the 1960's Stern was one of the highest paid and most sought after celebrity and fashion photographers, shooting the likes of Elizabeth Taylor, Twiggy, Sophie Loren, and of course Ms. Monroe. Many of these images are at Staley Wise, but we also get a glimpse into some of his other types of works, some still-lifes and nudes. The collection of about fifty images is a wonderful view into the variety of Stern's work.
The exhibition coincides with the documentary Bert Stern: Original Mad Man which tells the story of his rise, fall, and reinvention. It opens in theaters in New York on April 5th.
