On view until July 31 at the Consulate General of Argentina in NYC, is And Spring Again, an exhibition by Lucia Fainzilber. The colorful photographs of Fainzilber spotlight the feminine universe via portraiture. She places delicately beautiful women in plain, everyday scenes—flowers sprouting in a barren environment. Many of the faces are obscured, but the feeling of femininity and independence shine through. For instance, in her Camouflage images, the subject blends with a printed background, her face obscured, but she does not completely disappear. She is hidden, but she is present.
Fainzilber’s works have strong pictorial influence, with color as the medium of choice that brings the images together. They tell a narrative of time, progressing with the seasons. The development of woman: blossoming, aging, perishing, and then growing again.
