1. Tell us about your image:
Brian Moss: This photograph was taken backstage at the Mr Olympia professional bodybuilding contest, I was shooting for Muscle & Fitness magazine at the time, so i had all-access at the top contests. In addition to access I had the trust of all of the competitors, because they knew me and my work. You can't document moments like this without trust.
2. What type of Energy were you trying to express or capture in this photograph?
B.M.: Um, low? I wanted to document just how exhausted and insecure many competitors are when they compete at such a high level. Many competitors have been dieting for 16 weeks or longer leading up to this moment. Their bodies are on a razors edge. In a way their bodies at this moment do not truly belong to them, because as soon as they break their diet, they lose the edge. The ultimate irony in the sport is that generally the worse you feel, the better your condition. For their bodies this is quite literally "a moment in time". Documented.
3. Why Photography? What about it inspires and excites you?
B.M.: Its hard to say, why I take pictures, it just feels right. Being able to look at what everyone else looks at, but being able to "see" something totally different.
4. Our upcoming issue is centered around the theme of 'Fantasy'. What is your fantasy, right now?
B.M.: Taking more road trips with my dog and my camera. Trying to take photos with no humans in the frame. www.MyTravelsWith.com
