Project: Mobbing with The Original Scraper Bike Team

It is hard to ignore how rapidly the Bay Area is changing; with large technology companies and their employees moving into neighborhoods previously inhabited only by locals and new bars and restaurants popping up everywhere. Sometimes it feels as though the awareness of the culture that makes the Bay Area great in the first place is diminishing.

As a Photographer and a resident of Oakland for the past ten years, I feel a strong responsibility to capture and preserve the local culture that makes Oakland the incredible city that it is. The Original Scraper Bike team fully embodies that culture and I was honored to be a part of documenting this amazing group.

This project is meant to document and explore The Original Scraper Bike Team, their members, and what inspires them to create and collaborate. The group works to keep youth engaged and to create a community where everyone belongs. During this project, I was able to get to know the group members, the neighborhoods they're from, and the inspiration behind each unique Scraper Bike. I hope to give viewers a look in this sub-culture through my camera's lens.
