Woman Crush Wednesday: Pixy Liao
Interview by Eridian Falcone
Project: Experimental Relationship
Describe your creative process in one word.
If you could teach a one-hour class on anything, what would it be?
How to chill
What is the last book you read or film you saw that inspired you?
Blind Woman's Curse
What is the most played song in your music library?
Cool Grandma from my own band PIMO’s new album.
How do you take your coffee?
I usually drink tea.
How comfortable were your partners with being photographed?
Very. He’s usually very supportive. Occasionally he’s not in the mood.
Were there any scenarios in which a partner refused to be photographed?
For two reasons, one may be the photograph is of a taboo subject (like genitals, etc.). One is he is not in a good mood.
Did your work cause any rifts between you and your partners?
I try not too. The whole reason why I can photograph him so much is that I make him pretty happy in daily life.
What advice would you give others on photographing their relationships?
Be mindful of what your partner is up to or not. Consider the other’s feelings and also welcome their inputs. It will be a huge plus to your photographs.
Were there any scenarios planned by your partners, either that you loved and decided to photograph or hated and turned down?
Moro sometimes will improvise during a photoshoot. In one photo called “Two brides”, I ask him to wear a veil on his head and sit next to me. The expression he made was totally his own and it made the photograph.
