IMAGES THAT HAVE DEFINED THE 2016 ELECTION

Politics, much like photography, must glean from perspective and is situated within the eye of the beholder. A picture can capture a moment of cold indifference within a candidate’s enigmatic gaze or can intensify their charisma during an emotionally charged rally on the campaign trail. There has been no other presidential election cycle that has been this visually driven – or with higher stakes for the US. Social media and technology have been able to manipulate and publicize images of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump that offer the public political and cultural surveillance. Right now, politics is as ubiquitous as ever and can disturb, entertain, and inform like never before because of the intensive way we observe and scrutinize our presidential candidates.
