Writing Emily Harding

Hope can be hidden under hardship. A recent lesson that I have learned is that healing is not linear. During quarantine, I felt like I had finally broken a pattern of self-judgment and struggle. I was happy with my growth and the personal progress that I have made for myself. Soon after, life had presented me with another challenge that undeniably brought life to this project. I began looking for that original hopeful feeling that I had once felt. Finding these moments has helped me learn to be present with myself and find the highs in overwhelming lows during fluctuating emotions of healing.

Searching for and photographing these moments has helped me to be more mindful. I find myself seeking joy in places I never thought to look for it: in my dusty bedroom corner, or under the sink where the pipes snake, or a place as simple as the couch blanket. I try to record  the “moments in time” when we are able to be clear enough to see it- the joy in front of us-, be in it, and appreciate it. We are busy creatures and sometimes life can get in the way of truly seeing.
