Moment: Josh Windsor

When doing street photography, I seek slices of magic in the mundane. The more transient or unrepeatable the elements, the better.
I spotted this singular phenomenon while walking back from a beach in Spain. What I can only presume was a wet swimsuit had seeped out to form an almost perfect heart symbol on the back of this girl’s dress. Immediately galvanised, all I had to do was time the shot for minimal folds in the fabric. Later I learned of a theory that traces the origin of the heart symbol to precisely this “source”, which lent a further layer of amusement to the image.
Moments like this remind me to always have a camera at the ready, because you never know when serendipity will strike. In street photography, there are ways of stacking the odds in your favour, but being so reliant on what the world throws my way, I often feel more like a conveyor than a creator.
